From the way that I have read the documents, it will make my job as an employer a little bit easier.

My Mrs, who is an administrator for a small company, volunteered the company she works at for a trial of the new system about a year ago and along with other firms and companies across the country helped HMRC 'iron-out' the creases of this new system.

Her company goes live on the RTI system from 6th December 2012 and she tells me that any company or small firm that are not up to speed on their payroll will be found out very quickly and eventually fined if they keep being late with the weekly or monthly returns.

It is the Mrs's opinion that the self-employed will quickly follow with an online system of weekly or monthly returns and monthly tax payments.

Then the fun will start!!

The thing is though that registration would be voluntary so whats the betting less than 10% of the trade would register and what about all those split purse drivers that might find themselves suddenly having to pay tax and NI ?

The only way it could work in our trade is for it to become a condition of license that you show proof of being registered as part of the application if you declare yourself as self employed and not employed which could be interesting

There;s a lot of older people who don't even know how to use one or even know what one looks like. What about those unfortunate enough to not be able to read and write (most school leavers??).
