Following redundancy last October ..leaving with a pension and pay off ..after 4 months novelty of sitting at home has worn off ...I know me thinks ..I will buy a 9 seater vivaro ..a new one .. And get a private hire licence from the council to do the usual airport runs ..golf days ..etc etc etc ..collected all the forms from local council ..all good there.

Then I thought before I go any further I will get a insurance quote for the vivaro mini bus.

BTW I am 54 ..clean licence ..no accidents convictions etc..living in southend on sea essex area.

Phoned swintons spewed out all my details ...10mins later phone call back from swintons ..that would be £4400 a year
Me thinks that's a lot of airport runs to cover that

Is this the going rate do you think ??
Haven't phoned anyone else yet ...still in shock :)

It sounds like it ...maybe I will stay at home ..but seriously how can such a premium be justified ..given my age and driving record ...the nice man from swintons did say they have allowed me 1 years no claims discount as my car insurance has 9+ years NCB

dont exchange your 9 years NCB for 1 years NCB, crooks, you may as well stick it on a nice clean Mk5 Cortina and keep it

ask locally if any bases rent vehicles out with insurance

only prob is that you dont build up your own NCB that way, also, going in with a bus is always gonna hurt, new badge/8 seater, and an expensive motor too, try minibus direct

There are more insurers out there so spend a day ringing around.

However even at £4,400 that's only, and I know it's still a lot, £85 a week, and it will reduce when you gain some no claims.

I think when ringing around you should get it down to £3,000-£3,500.

Public Liability can be bought seperately if needed, I wonder if you might be cheaper Sourcing Vehicle Insurance and Public Liability Insurances seperately..just a Thought. :-k

Firm down here does it by having the firm named on the license with the owner/proprietor.

There's a few firms round here that do the same.

You only need public liability if you do school contracts, so if you don't need it save some money.
My insurance is due at the end of the month, best quote so far £477 or £556 with full breakdown cover, with Saber
