Taxi Driver Online

Hello all. Got talking to a taxi driver tonight, the conversation got on to insurance. What he told me is never heard of before and guessing isn't legal but wanted to know either way.

This taxi driver buys normal car insurance full comp, of a comparison site, inserts all the miles per year, car, his job etc. Then he buys public liability insurance from a totally different company for about £150.

I've never heard of this before? Legal or not

Not only that but the Licensing officer should pick this up when his vehicle renewal is due.

The vehicle is insured, the passengers are insured - but the wording of the car insurance will not say 'for hire and reward', therefore if it gets used for H&R the policy will be invalid !

If you could get a hire and reward policy on the understanding that you can't claim for passengers it might lower the premium, still be more expensive than a standard policy though.

His LO must be in a coma if plates are issued on private insurance
