Been taxiing about 6 weeks now, and have a small problem with paying my wages into my current account. The clerks behind the window in my bank are getting a bit skitzed because of the ammount of coins i'm throwing at them every week and keep asking me to open a business account. But I'm sure with a business account i'd be worse off as they charge you for it, and for paying in etc ?.... |

Banks can be funny at the best of times with small change no matter what type of account you hold, but so long as you hold an account with them they cant refuse to take the money, after all its got the queens head on it. The only time they can refuse is if you dont have an account with them!! |

Try bagging some change up eg £20 in £1coin and using it to pay for fuel. Another thing i do is if i have a bagful of £1coin is to give them back to the customers, £4 on the meter and you get handed a £10 note "sorry guv, ive no fivers", handing back 6 coins in change. Works for me. |

I would use your change for fuel and office rent, and keep the notes for the bank.

Also I forgot to mention that at the Halifax bank in our town there is a notice up saying customers can only pay in 5 bags of coins at a time due to time consuming ! |

Banks CAN refuse to take coins from you. The five bag limit is correct matey, at least, that's what they do in Chester too. As an earlier poster said, using coins for fuel is your best bet, cos the stations are usually glad of the change. Plus with the old "got no fivers" guff, you'll be surprised how quickly a bag full of pound coins disappears. |

i used to save the small silver in a jar and then put it all into one of those coinmaster things at the super market at Xmas. that would be the beer paid for

The five bag limit is correct matey, at least, that's what they do in Chester too Fortunately i have not had this problem in Plymouth as of yet and i own 3 businesses, but i can honestly say that if they started to get funny then i would stay there causing as much havoc as i possibly legally could until they decided to take it, afterall whats a bank for if its not to pay money in to, and lets be honest they charge you enough money every sodding year

I just looked into using one of those change machines in the supermarkets, coinstar, they charge 7.9% commission ! |

I use one for my small change, ie. ones, twos and fives, the stuff I don't use for my float. Every couple of months I change around £40 worth, which will cost you around £3 in comission. Not too bad really. Just a bugger lugging it to Sainsburys in the first place. |
