it's a very common fault.had my timing chain pre-tensioner replaced july.in december it failed and the chain jumped several teeth destroying the cylinder-head.the main dealers (paton's edin) then informed me that there was back order delay of 6 to 8 weeks. then i phoned other dealers and 2 in london would sell me them but wouldn't let paton's have them for warrenty work. a few phone calls later (to the right people) and the parts were despatched. all is fine now until the next time for me anyway! there are lot's of other's with timing chain probelms and a waiting list to get them fixed(paton's have rationed them-selves to replacing 2 per day) this is a SERIOUS prob eusasmiles.zip  elm

problems?

there is problem with one of the VW 2 years old, WA cabs tho, his belt was replaced 40 thou miles ago, now a blown engine,

The driver appeared on the ranks tonight, total cost =£4000, due, for repairs, vehicle repairs not done yet, not the timing belt, but the water pump going faulty, but the engine is knackered, he is renting a cab after two weeks off work, plus there's the cost of the plate he rents at a cost of £880 per 4 week month, phew, and the plate owner is fumming, wot can you do, he wants his rent money.

mines going in [Merc] next week for 800 quids worth, the suspension arm bushes are going, they come as complete units, both sides , front, wot a bummer and I was riding high, thinking what a great job this is.

Why not bombard LTI with a demand that they change the engine if the are bringing out a new model, I know that they will not put the VW 2.5 in as they cannot do a deal with them, but if we demand a change they might be able to get the TOYOTA 2.7 or the new 2.5 NISSAN one. OH and tell them to make it a minimum of 150 BHP more power less fuel
Go to www.lti.co.uk and tell them there ford engine is crap, I have.

They know the engine is crap.

All the London trade organisations have told them so, and all the main unions have as well.

They are tied in to a 10 year deal with Ford which lasts until 2012.

They are adament they will not be going back to a Japanese engine during this time, it was all across the trade papers such as The Badge and Cab News last week.

So the rattle continues, unless this all singing, all dancing TX3 engine lives up to they're expectations.

The joys of an icon.
