Post subject:  VW Shuttle
Just done 1000mls in new VW Shuttle T5 and its awsome (so far), 130bhp engine has plenty of power and they come with ABS, Traction Control etc etc as standard, only niggle is a squeek from one of the rear seats. conversion was by Bernard Mansell.

A mate of mine has one due any moment, so he will be well pleased with your comments.

His is going to be licensed for 8 (PH), and able to take 2 wheel-chairs. Should do at least 5mph up a hill. :shock:

Now done 2000mls, fuel consumption could be better, its doing about £30 to 200mls at the mo, hoping the engine will loosen up as the miles go on, some road noise from the front tyres, some confusion as to the tyre pressures so they may be under inflated (sign on door says 45psi in the front, tyre says max load 54psi) my old t4 had 54 in the front as dictated by the sign. Ride quality is excellent as is the comfort with reach & rake steering adjustment.

:D Pro`s (so far):- Ride quality, comfort, performance, electricly operated sliding step, looks the part & it attracts lots of attention off other cab drivers & the punters like it.

:-| Con`s (so far):- Fuel consumption, front tyre road noise, very slight sticky rear passenger sliding door.

Now done 3000mls, everything running on top form, more accurate fuel consumption is 70mls to a tenner, I have spoken to VW and they say the engines are built tight (long life engine) and that they will loosen up quite a lot between 10 & 20 thousand, the road noise is a lot better since putting 51psi in the front tyres. No problem with hills even with 7 on board, these vehicles have an incredible ammount of torque and 70mph in 6th comes in at just 2000 revs, the slight sticking door when opening it turns out to be a bit of air pressure. I will keep posting and will say it as I see it.

Glad you are getting on ok with it, I like that 6th gear in my motor, get on the M1 and drop it into 6th whooooossssshhhhhhh hardly any revs and flying.

Hi Smokey, the vehicle is running superb, its done 13000 mls and I just booked it in for its 1st service, my conversion was done by Bernard Mansell so I can`t coment on Jubilee. To date I still have no rattles, there were a couple that I sorted when it was new but they were just the norm, there isn`t a shift goes by that the punters don`t comment on it, and say it smells new (private plate) that makes it look like its a 51 year. At the moment I can`t complain and would definately recommend one, the 1st service is a bit pricey at £140.00 + vat but that includes a complete inspection. I recon I have about another 2000 mls left in the front tyres which are about £80 per tyre, rear tyres have lots of tread left, my vehicle is the 130 hp, 6 speed 2.5 tdi and although theres lots of power I`m thinking of getting it chipped to release the rev band which is supposed to make these things awesome. Let me know if theres anything you want to know about.

Hi Flep, good to hear things are going well with the shuttle. I'm hoping to pick mine up in a couple of weeks or so as Jubilee said the end of March (I hope they are true to their word).
I've gone for the 130ps SWB 2.5TDi SE tiptronic as I've driven autos most of the time although the manual I test drove was a dream to drive. I'll post back here when I've done a few miles to let you know how it's going.

i have a bernard mansell one as well but not the new shuttle, it will be 2 years old in june (74,000 miles so far) and not been any probs!
im changing it in june and am thinking of jubilees shuttle! £28,000 for it but well worth it!
keep us posted flep!
any one interested in buying my old one???

:D Now done 15000 mls and everything as expected, just put new front tyres on, the Michelin Agilis tyres that were on when it was bought were quite noisy, now have Goodyear Marathon Cargo tyres on and they are much quieter, just have to wait and see how they wear. Its difficult to know what else to say about it, I suppose I`d have more to say if there were probs :roll:

16000 miles and the brake light has come on to indicate the pads need changing, its the rear pads that have worn, the fronts are still ok.
Quotes I have had are £54.00 for the front & £64.00 for the rear plus £78.00 labour with the dealer (apparently you need a tool for the rears), it was listed at the VW dealer £99 plus vat for the front. Quick fit quoted £75.90 for the front & £69.90 for the rear fitted. I`ll stick my foot out the door to stop from now on :lol:
