The recently revived taxi cab manufacturer says spares supply is now taking place, body panels are to follow, painting services will be available soon and built-up vehicle production is imminent.
Metrocab’s Managing Director Mark Morris said today, "We are now moving forward, albeit slower than anticipated".
Metrocab, the Tamworth-based purpose built Taxi manufacturer was placed into administration just over twelve months ago with a loss of 100 jobs. They confirmed last July that they would be re-starting the business.
Morris said, "We have been restructuring Metrocab to enable it to operate as a business which has an achievable cost base ensuring its stability year on year. This will provide Metrocab with a secure base from which to fulfill its long term objective of being a major supplier of custom build taxis to a world market".
Morris added, "As a result of this Metrocab has closed both its Manchester and London dealerships and will sell its vehicles directly to authorized franchises with no direct sales taking place to the public from the factory. Authorized outlets will carry out warranty work and service agents will be appointed. Metrocab will not be involved in the secondhand market, a sector in which we have previously struggled. The aftermarket side of the business has also been restructured to ensure the Metrocab TTT Taxi is fully supported in the parts sector".
Metrocab expects to be in a position over the next couple of weeks to supply GRP panels to the aftermarket. Thereafter, Metrocab expects to initially drip feed one vehicle per week into the market while a franchise network is established, and production output raised to Metrocab’s target figure of four to five taxis per week.
