| Post subject: | Best Ever Taxi |
What do you think was the best ever taxi. Taking into consideration value for money, looks, lifespan, comfort etc. etc. I think it's got to be the Fairway or the TX1. All we hear about the TXII is complaints. What do you think? |

If you are asking what the best ever car used as a taxi is, then I would say the Sierra. 
If you are asking what 'Icon' is the best taxi, then IMHO the horse and cart surpassed anything that has followed it.

The Ford Cortina MkII/MkIII. (But WAS, is the operative word). Or the MkIII Zodiac. (With a Pye Westminster radio). |

the old cavalier was good. £100 inclusive for a clutch change. And five minute job if the cam belt went. now its 300/400 for a clutch and 1000+ for a cam belt gone.

Ive only had one, an N Mondeo, and its been pretty good, and Ive had it since 1998 
215000 and the bonnet has only ever been lifted for maintenance and the clutch and box are original. A driveshaft went at 180000 and the wishbones have been poor and some other suspension bits are weak and rattle a bit. But apart from that all the other problems have not been dear, typically £50 max. Apart from some minor rust about the wheelarches the paint and bodywork is still great, which is surprising since its red! |

Looking at non - purpose - built vehicles, I'd say that the Cavalier and the Mondeo were about best. The Vectra's been a good car too. I've heard a lot of complaints about the new Mondeos though. Lads have had them about 2 years and they've basically packed up. I've not had one, and there've been a few complaints about recent ones, but the Octavia seems to have been a really good choice. |

I thought the Nissan Bluebird was a fantastic car for a taxi, 2 trip meters, comfortable reliable lots of gadgets, I cant believe they stopped making them |

A very nice motor indeed, except from when the shocks went. Then it was like riding the Big One at Blackpool.

A company I used when I was on holiday in Scotland ran Bluebirds for years, they were great. They must have liked them because they've got Primeras now. The Bluebird was one of the nicest cars of its day for taxiing, a lovely motor. |

Well after the 504, 505, Maxi, Princess, Granada (taxi pack),Carlton, Cavalier, Bluebird, 405, 406, Morris Oxford, Passat, Octavia, Superb, C Class Merc. It comes down to a straight fight between the Morris 1800 and the E class Mercedes. If you use the old square headlight E class that wins hands down. If you choose the latest model then it has to be the Morris 1800. £rd palce to the Granada. And ask the question Ford, why the fock haven't you replaced that car? We have had lots of others on the fleet but those are the main vehicles we have used. |

Perhaps after recently buying Jaguar and Volvo they dont want to dilute the large exec markets with a 'cheaper' ford model when they can get top $$$ with their other marques? |

They did, but I suppose the Scorpio is worth forgetting about
There were a few Scorpios on St Andrews for a year or two, but they a couple of them were just disasters, and they all disappeared about three years ago. But there are still a couple of K reg Granadas taxi-ing

Austin A60 or mooris oxford or wolsely 16/60 got to have been the best with a perkins diesel am I showing my age |
