Do Private Hire plates issued by local councils have to be displayed at ALL times? Even when the vehicle is not being used as a private hire vehicle? |

Yes, unless you have an exemption from displaying them. |

If you have an exemption then yes, if not then no. Basically a PH is always a PH, so it must display it's plate no matter what. But some councils allow executive vehicles to either have a little internal plate, or no plate at all on display. |

I've always had my plates renewed on time, the current one runs out on the 31/01/14 |

I applied for my new plate 2 weeks before it ran out, the council say allow one week for it to be made. They also say they will let me know when it's ready to collect. So four days before it expires I hadn't heard anything and gave them a ring - turns out I'd forgotten to pay the £10 fee for the plate, no problem as I can go in, pay the tenner and wait whilst they make the plate up. So why couldn't I just turn up with all the paperwork and the fees and be given the plate there and then ? I thought they sent out for the plate to be made and that was why there was a weeks wait.

since it became 6 years old its had (and binned) 5 plastic plates and 1 is waiting (months end) to go on it cut down on waste at a council?... the renewal form itself could be one double sided A4 instead of 2, saving more, theres a 25 box line for "make of car", erm........... Vauxhall Chevrolet Kia....nope, even with a stutter 25 letters is a FFFFFFFFFFFFFlipping lot theyve just replaced the door signs for new ones with the PH or HC plate number, think about it, now they have had to order a spare pair with the plate number for every plated vehicle in the LA instead of (say) 20 pairs of the old un-numbered old ones |
