Got a chance of buying a Citroen C5 1.6HDi VTR+, any thoughts ? Looks a decent enough motor, well specced and cheap - the owner reviews I've read mostly praise the car with only a few having any problems. But what's it like as a cab, anyone got one or knows someone who has one, should I buy or avoid ? |

It could be the car or it could be the lack of maintenance. |

I've owned a couple of Citroens and had no major problems with them, I actually think you get a lot of car for the money. But they were used as a private cars, I'm wanting to know how they stack up for PH use - comfort, reliability, economy, practicallity, performance, wear and tear - all the usual stuff. |

I had a Citroen from brand new, never again..... poor build, no parts backup, lack of customer service then again the Mk4 Mondeos use the PSA engines.... |

I know they can suffer premature turbo failure if the oil changes haven't been carried out religiously ( and the correct oil used) or the oil level has been allowed to run low. Seems to affect the 1.6 Hdi more than the 2.0 Hdi. I think possibly because it has to work harder being a smaller engine. |

wannabeeahack wrote: then again the Mk4 Mondeos use the PSA engines.... Are you saying Citroens have the same engine as the Mondeo ? If so then (engine wise) the reliability should be about the same, and cost of parts/availability about equal. One of my worries was the availability of Citroen parts, last time I owned one it was pointless going to a parts place so I just got them all online. At least with the mondeo you can get them anywhere cheaply. |

The basic engine block is the same PSA (peugeot/Citroen ) unit. Different company's use different head designs, pipework etc. These include ; Ford, Jaguar, Landrover/Range Rover, Fiat, Mazda, Volvo and many others I'm sure. |

So a lot of engine parts should be interchangeable between Citroen/Ford ? Most of the C5 failings I'm reading about are either electric windows or the particulate filter. |

Do Citroens use the cassette belts system that Mondeos have ? This is what's put me off another Mondeo, too many failing under 80,000m. And at £300-£500 to change I was hoping to avoid. |
