Would an E7 (or Sentinel equivalent) comply with the V5 stipulation? Quote: No Hackney Carriage Vehicles will be permitted to be more than 6 years old for saloon type vehicles and 10 years old for purpose-built taxis as defined on the vehicles V5 DVLA document, from the date of first registration (unless the vehicle is in an exceptional condition as determined by the Council). OR... Quote: All Public Carriage Office approved (i.e. London Taxis) are exempt from any colour restriction.

On the V5C my E7 reg 2006 is listed on the certificate as a taxation class "Diesel Car", body type "Taxi". In Cardiff it is a 10 year life span that seems to have been extended, having said that it is officially 10 years but there are 2003 vehicles still on the road. |

Trying to confirm if an E7 can be classed as "Purpose built" as we all know they are van conversions |

wannabeeahack wrote: Trying to confirm if an E7 can be classed as "Purpose built" as we all know they are van conversions I would think that they are (considered/classified) as "Purpose Built" of a fashion, although not from scratch so to speak. As mentioned Cardiff seem to classify them as such, on that you/I have a comparison to use. If you look around you will see many that are not necessarily "Purpose Built", but they are (fit for purpose). Quote: (unless the vehicle is in an exceptional condition as determined by the Council). Basically it would seem that the Council/L.A have the jurisdiction to make exceptions, plus on the V5 it is stated as being a "Taxi"......i.e. rubber stamped by a government department! |

Our council class them as a conversion and not purpose built. One chap here runs one as a Hackney and we have the Eurobus version as a private Hire. |
