Hi guys, I am hoping that a few of you would give me the benefit of your advise. I have been in the trade for over 25yrs, but not actively for the last 5 yr. I need to purchase a 2nd hand Diesel Estate Automatic to be used as a PHV. Just not sure which way to turn with a Max budget of £8500.00. I have narrowed it down to 3 cars (I think) Vauxhall Insignia, VW Passat or Skoda Superb. Reading comments on the Forum the Insignia does not have many followers, the Passat seems to be very expensive to maintain & repair (£3500 for Auto box) and the Skoda very expensive to buy. In fact the Skoda would be at the top of my price range with 120k + miles. Your comments and experience would be very much appreciated. I anticipate mostly trips of 110-100 miles. Thank you.

Id only have an auto for town work, even though the DSG box isnt truly an old school auto (its TWO manuals with a DMF shifted by motors, or so i read)

The Superb would be the obvious choice tho

Thanks guys I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Defo gives me something to think about. I'm just a bit concerned what mileage I could reasonably expect to get from a Skoda? Having run 2 Volvo s80 D5's in the past, put over 300k on both, maybe I should also consider a new model V70.

You must have had a bad one, I know people with Passat's who've done over 300K with no problems.

I personally don't know anybody who is able to say a good word about that model, B5 and B5,5 o.k. it's possible (not very often) but is. and funny thing is that I sold it to the other company and it's still running as a taxi, how they manage that sh!t? or maybe I've replaced everything solving all problems? my advice is - stay away!
