Well, its a long story. As you know, Jubillee (which is what I really wanted) could not do a V-220 this side of next Christmas. So, I ordered a special build from Fowlers who acquired the vehicle through Enza the Mercedes dealer who were having it built to my spec partly by Voyager.
Well, that was the theory. Sadly, it went downhill from there, so what I ended up with was an empty shell. I dont think that Voyager ever even set eyes on the vehicle.
So, after recovering the new 53 plate box with nothing in it back to our yard by ten pm on the Friday night (remember, I only ordered this in May), our own fitters went to work on it.
I had a contract to start on the Monday, so in the space of one weekend, they trimmed it, fitted seats, and did all the other stuff. I missed the morning run with the school on the monday, and it was done with a hired in motor. But, by monday afternoon, it was tested, Hackney plated and out working.
We still have work to do on it, and are doing it as the bits arrive. When it is complete, I will publish the full story along with piccys on our site, as I know it will make you jealous.
Unfortunately, I ended up with a manual box, and I have already found the 112/V-220 gear ratios a bit long-legged for around the town work, and should have specified the 108 ratios. OK on Motorways, but I'd go for an auto box in town. I may yet fit one.
It is also very bouncy down our pot hole roads and country lanes, but that should be improved when we do the suspension in the next week or so, if we can get it off the road long enough.
What I am after, is "the Perfect Cab" but whether I get it or not is another matter. But I'll keep you informed anyway Wharfie.
I'm lucky in having a "boss" who is keen on seeing it done and able to do it, along with a school contract which pays for it. Its the first "new" new cab I have ever had, and may well be the last too! We shall see.. lol.
