I've got about £6000 available and I am looking to buy a used car as I'm sick of renting and making somebody else money. I quite like the look of the vauxhall Insignia estate. Seen a 13 plate with 112000 miles on. Or a 61 plate with 90000 miles on. Open to other suggestions and ideas. Fire away!

Don't buy a Vauxhall for Cabbying. That's all I'm saying.

That's a lot of miles on to start with.

Whatever you buy keep a little back for emergencies.

Nothing worse than the car breaking down and you can't afford to get it back on the road.

If I was you I would look at getting a Skoda.

Skodas in my price range are about 57/58/59 plate. I've been speaking to a few mechanics who have warned me away from insignias. So thinking just gonna go for a mondeo. Nice and reliable. Unless I can find a decent octavia or superb

And i will definitely be putting money away for the upkeep and maintenance

The new shape Mondeo does not enjoy the same reliability as the previous models

Not sure I agree with that, but time will tell.

Just a thought shoot me down if you like.
Have you thought about buying new if you have £6000 you could put down £4000 deposit that would give you low monthly repayments. If you start with a car with 90.000 in a years time the maintenance cost may be the same as the monthly payments. That way you start with a new car no miles 3year warranty or 60.000

Keep your £6000 and use somebody else's money like the Finance companies or, put £3000 down and keep £3000 to yourself. Putting £3000 down will lower your monthly payments.

I'd check the service records if I were you. Phone the garages up to be on the safe side.
