Can electric cars be towed when (not if) they run out of power?

Unless the driver is a complete moron and is planning to exceed the range of the vehicle, they should never completely run out of power. The car will warn when the battery is getting low and long before the power runs out the car should go into a power saving mode whereby the speed is limited to conserve the battery power until you can get to a plug or charging point.

If a electric car has to be recovered the drive wheels have to be off the floor as the only ones I have seen are automatics.

They are not automatics in the true sense of the word because they don't have a gearbox as such.

A huge problem with EVs is not just the cost of new one but also cost to insure,maintenance and minor/major damage caused by collisions, are they worth it? No but I think our governments may enforce them upon us.

I remember the first time I saw a sat nav was being taken on a demo run by a black cabby at the Sandown Taxi show many years ago, he said he was the London agent and the units where £1,500.

I suspect he is a very rich man now.

They will be till 1 firm breaks cover and produces a fuel cell leccy car that carries a family and luggage and costs under £25K...

While Ford and the rest have billions invested in piston engine production they dont want leccy cars on the market, neither do the oil companies
