im in the hunt for a new taxi (wav) what are the best ones to go for and ones to avoid?
Will look at most except that horrible looking pope mobil (dublo)

Red I think they all have their faulkts.
TXs are too expensive but some lads love them.
Euro 7s are OK.
The Fiat and Puegoets Euro cabs are ok but Im not sure what they will be like with 250,000 on the clock.
I love the mercs and the new volkswagon looks good.
I think your best bet is to go to a taxi show.
But i dont know if there is one near you for a while.

28,000 well thats a wide market you can afford most

thing is you dont tell us the characteristics of your area is it hilly,? whats the age profile? lots of long runs or short ones? do you need an 8 seater?
do you run bus routes? urban or rural?

I take it that you dont live in the vatican if you dont want a pope mobile.

No do not think it is a Pope Mobile,more like a safari jeep,especially the
Freedom.
Not a bad machine for single shifting and small WAV.

Also Euro 7,now the E7,have ran for two years,pricey for servicing,but
no major problems,mileage over 100,000.
Euro Bus,if using as WAV,have to take middle seats out,and this can
be a bit of a pain.

You can pick up a Transporter Shuttle (SE version) 130 BHP 2.5 TD for £20,000 or thereabouts from my local VW dealer - ordered mine and should be here early March - oh what a cracking little deal ! Well chuffed with myself.

mind how you go with e7. new brakes after 22,000 miles even with no hills, rear seat skweeks like a mouse farm, wrong seat belts fitted, rac dont understand them intercom deaf over 50 mph, advertising questionable,pay booth stuck on with double sided tape.

why did i show up as guest when slagging of e7 i dont care who knows it were me

£20,000 for the shuttle sounds good but is that wheelchair access?

Yeah its wheelchair access.
I have my own ramps, so therefore getting a bit knocked off but I am getting clamps thrown in for free.
Also - no metre. But again I've got my own metre from a previous vehicle.

Dont knock the Doblo so quickley,
1.the w/c punters love it.
2. its cheap but has everthing you need, aircon etc.
3. MPG and servicing are good.
4. the income is pretty much the same whatever you use, so why payout or borrow £20k+
5 You can afford to change it every 2 years and still be ahead of the Merc's, E7 etc on cost.
6. How many times have you had a punter lose something in a taxi and cant even tell the make or colour of the car ? Few punters care they just want to get A to B and not wait a hour to do it. Service is what keeps them coming back not the vehicle.
I have used saloons, Eurocabs, TX1, TX2, Metrocabs 1 & 2, Merc Vito,
E7,Peugeot 806 there is very little to choose between all of them. The Merc is probably the best but is far too expensive to purchase and to run and is no more reliable. Pound for Pound the Doblo is the most cost effecxtive, but it aint pretty and the convertion quality varies. Check the supplier and the layout before you buy.

I've rented a Fiat Doblo for the last 6 weeks or so and I would not pay anything over around £6000 for this vehicle.
I think what some companies are trying to charge (upto £14,000 for "top of the range" Doblo's) is an absolute disgrace.
The vehicle can't be faulted for its drive but the quality of the parts and the interior is terrible.
I believe Fiat have used the cheapest of the cheap when it comes to the interior and the parts, well, its a fiat - I had a Scudo for 5 years and promised myself I wouldn't give Fiat any more money when I had a bitter row over a faulty ECU unit.
This, so called taxi, is cheap compared to the VW, Merc, Euro 7 etc but should be far far cheaper. It’s a van with very little conversion done to it. Not like the Euro 7's or Merc's.
It has always been my thought that cheap is not always best.
That’s why I think the VW Transporter I'm buying in March will still be on the roads come 6-7 years time and the Doblo I had been renting will be on the scrap heap.
ie : one major payout of £20,000 to cover 5-6 years work or 3 doblo's costing around £12,000 each in the same space of time.
I know which one is the more sensible deal.
To also know I'd been spending 40 hours per week behind the wheel of a Doblo would kill me. You've got to atleast try to give yourself a little comfort in life - its your office.
