Don't know about the cam but my 1.5 super eco diesel hasn't got a chain.

Yes. If I chose the routes, time of day and speed carefully I could easily achieve MORE than 60mpg average in my Toyota hybrid.
However in normal day to day driving, as a taxi - no.

Still get 55mpg in winter and 58mpg+ in summer round town though. On one nights work I managed 68mpg, just round town. But that was an exception.

what is it, whats the pure electric range?

It's a hybrid so not electric - electrically assisted.
If the batterys full, on level ground at 40mph without having to stop it'll do about 3/4 mile on electric.

But in reallity the battery is always being topped up when braking, decellerating and pulling away from lights etc. so the batterys always got some charge in it. So rather than doing 3/4 mile in one go and using all the battery charge you're doing lots of 150yd sections with the engine only running for the first 75 yds or so to get you up to speed and then switching to electric once you hit 30 and back off the accelerator. I'd say the engine only runs for 50% of the time I'm driving, and not at all when stationary.

If you're doing over 40mph the engines always running. At 50mph my dash display shows 58mpg, at 70 56mpg.

Youve got an Ampera?

Vauxhall’s futuristic plug-in hybrid, sister car to the Chevrolet Volt. Don’t tar it with the same brush as the Toyota Prius and other existing hybrids that off er negligible benefits, as the Ampera moves the game along much further. It has a 1.4-litre petrol engine as well as an electric motor and an electric generator, all scrunched in underneath the bonnet. Juice it up from the mains and it will travel for up to 50 miles on electricity alone, then you’ve got the petrol engine to make up the difference.

Happens I did an out of town last night, first job of the night. 150mile round trip, all motorway at just under 80mph. By the time I got back the mpg was showing 53mpg, the rest of the shift was all round town stuff and when I finished I was back up to 57mpg.
