None actually. Mine is a 2.3 ford Galaxy 145 bhp engine. they are not known for blowing head gaskets or radiator cores. the crap you may have read in LtDA doom & gloom Bi monthly refers to the rover engine conversion, I agree that they are both unreliable & underpowered......unlike mine.

Have you ever driven an LPG Taxi :?: :?: ..You wanna get of those poxy diesel powered Fairways & TX1's they are crap......I have never driven anything so bad....my sofa does corners better than those old [edited by admin]. & speed....well...I could go faster on my skateboard :?:

cheers chap

tread carefully i know two local drivers that converted to LPG both had blown engines within 6 months although they both deny it was the LPG which damaged the engine> LPG does shorten the engine life because it burns at a higher temperature destroying valve seats you do need to cost that into the equation I.E. does the reduced fuel cost more than cover the increased maintainance

If your the sole driver and you drive with some sanity you may be ok but other than that - Don't do it!!!!

Been there, done that, replaced the engine, and then again.... no chance - long terms costs don't make it worth while.

Listen in
I used to work with LPG Fork Lift trucks after I came out the army in the late 70's, they had problems then and still have

firstly when you convert to LPG you have to inform DVLA, and your Insurance company, and no doubt the Council

we never had any engine problems, no carboning up or anything like that, everything was clean, even on engine strip down, LPG from the tank goes through a two stage convertor to which is cooled and circulated by the vehicle engine coolant system, without radiator coolant the system freezes up solid

the lpg leaves the lpg cylinder and goes through two stages, high pressure from the tank then converted to low pressure in the gas conversion unit through rubber diaprams with the valves controlling how much gas goes through

these tiny valves are seated [like lever valve that open and close with pressure subject to the position of the diaprams operated by vacuum] with rubber O rings, as time goes by the O rings dry out and become hard, now and again the rubber diaprams also perish, causing more problems

Having worked with the stuff [LPG] personally think its a waste of time and effort trying to save a few quid, theres also always problems of "Smell Gas"

we had a few up here try it but got rid

the cost would be I would have thought about 1700 quid outlay, anyway where are you going to put that wheelchair
