Metrocab cleared to re-start production after fresh funds injection

Mark Morris, acting managing director of Metrocab (UK) Limited, confirmed yesterday (2 September) that the firm is now allowed to start trading again following a further injection of funds.

Metrocab, the Tamworth-based manufacturer of purpose built black cabs, was placed into administration at the end of last year. A re-financing programme now put in place with the administrators and creditors by Metrocab’s parent company Kamcorp will allow it to start production again this month.

Mark Morris said, "Over the next two weeks we will have a clearer picture of the timescale involved for full production to begin but we will have our first ‘triple T’ models coming off the line by the end of the month"

Morris confirmed all the companies who previously supplied Metrocab with components were now ready to start supplies again.

"Staff levels will expand from the current handful of workers already on site to around 40 by the time we start full production before the end of the year. Some employees will be the staff we unfortunately lost when the business ceased trading and others will be new to the business," said Morris.

Mark Morris added, "The first Metrocab TTT black taxi to come off the line this month will incorporate the latest London Taxi regulation changes implemented by the Public Carriage Office and next year we plan to introduce a totally revised model. We should be producing four to five triple Ts a week in the very near future and we will now be able to continue to supply existing triple T owners with replacement parts and spares.

Metrocab was originally founded in 1993 and at its peak were producing up to 100 vehicles a month. This had diminished to ‘a handful’ when production ceased nearly a year ago.

Could do then it could not, I'm glad to see Metrocab are are starting production yet again but how long will it last? Lets hope they have got plenty of money in the bank to improve their vehicles next year and honour their warranties.

How will LTI and why would LTI fund a competitor?

Ok Nige I will tell you in great detail,
There is a nice little case about to start in London between suppliers of plumbers vans and Transport for London.

the public carriage office is doing studies at the moment, the explanation for this, is to reconsider the case for the turning circle, in fact its to have expert doccuments,

The real weakness of any case to put is that LTI have a monopoly and they cant by taxis off anyone else.

LTI are worried about this point as there realy is no argument its fact.

So they go down to the lodge and grease some palms of friends and say tell you what there is the METRO firm go buy it and we will fund you, for fcks sake dont mass produce just half a dozen a week.

now they can say they have competition.

thats whats happening here no I am not a cynic Alex just dont walk around blind like you lot.

METRO was dead in the water and always is revived when theres a court case over competition issues.

when it goes away again METRO will go bust again, but the factory is only mothballed

now Nige that is why!

Fare comment,or should I say Fair comment.
Like the logic behind this post and must admit did not think of this.
More I read your post,it does become sensible to do this and feasible to keep the competitor to the minimum of sales.

Baldrick the Scot.

Good post but aren't LTI registered on the stock exchange? I didn't think they could have a holding in 2 companies?

If the cynical view is correct then it would certainly need to be done in an underhand manner, because if LTI was backing Metro financially then it wouldn't be a competitor.

Well thats good news at last, :D now I will be able to get one with a nice quiet Toyota engine, no rust worries and dent proof.
It amasses me as to why some insist on still paying over the odds for a heap of junk from LTI them Ford engines  are crap and sound like a cement mixer, the body's rust and dent easily, and the last time I checked they cost about 4k more
