When mine went, I had 8 out of 16 valves bend. there was just one small mark on one piston. Since fitting the new head I have had no problems at all...................................................Yet. :wink:

Mechanic has been in touch and it looks like a whole new engine. Basically what happend was, the water pump seized which left the timing belt spinning. it's stripped the belt leaving me with all the valves bent and some seized into the head. I've got a price for a re con engine with 65000 and it's come in at £1,200. The mechanic is fitting it me for £250 so that's £1,450. I might be back on the road for Friday night.

Your right ouch :shock: , change the belt and adjuster and the water pump before its fitted to make sure, also check how the clutch is wearing fit a new one if in doubt

How old is the car BTW???

or a valve head snaps of the stem, and wedges into a piston, or rattles around and scores the bores, bits were sucked into the other cylinders (up via the exposed inlet manifild) and all 4 bores are U/S, not trying to worry anyone......

That valve took a dislike to that piston didn't it??

Location: Used to be in Lowestoft,now escaped.
I sometimes trundle about in an old mk1 transit.Everyone slags off the old V4 engines which have a fibre wheel driving the cam shaft,these break and can bugger the engine up.
Fourty five years later we're making engines supposedly state of the art which have a belt that breaks and does exactly the same thing.
Progress?.

If they made an engine that didn't commit suicide when the belt snapped think of the people that would be out of work?
