I have had an intermittent problem for quite some time with the cab working alright some days/weeks and then back to square one. The cab would be out driving okay, and then it would drop into limp mode, being rectified by turning the engine off and back on again.

The advice given by others i.e EGR valve/leaking turbo hoses etc etc etc have not been the problem according to the mechanic who looks after my vehicle. The codes coming up showing faults can be a bit of a red herring and are not always direct to the problem.

Anyway.

I started to take a bit more note of what speeds I was driving at, driving conditions i.e hills/gradients, and the amount of passengers in the cab - weight of the people, as I felt that there was a link.

The reason I have been confused re the problem, is because most of the time the problem has occurred on the motorway, but! I have also had it running locally.

The reason it is going into limp mode seems to be caused by the engine being forced to work harder in terms of "Engine Revs". First and foremost I am not screaming the engine in terms of acceleration, but if I accelerate a bit longer than normal i.e going up a hill or because I have 6 large guys in the back and need to get up to speed for the next gear, the engine goes into limp mode. I made a conscious effort over the last couple of weekends to keep the engine revs down when accelerating i.e into the next gear as quickly as it will take, and also keeping the speed below 70 mph on the motorway.

What I think I have found, is that accelerating a bit longer than normal in 3rd,4th and 5th gear - trips it into limp mode. Keep it low in revs, and instead of it happening 8/9/10 times a night, I only get it once or twice. Going high in terms of revs (I am not a boy racer) and it puts it into limp mode.

Ideas anyone, as even my mechanic with his computers is stumped.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Is it possible for them to be partially blocked? I am prepared to look at anything.
