It would depend on how far you were driving and how fast you are going. Having the windows open increases the drag on the car and so it will also lower your MPG.

About 2 MPG less with Aircon on...but the Weight of your passengers, Incorrect tyre Pressures and more Importantly your driving style will all individually contribute more to MPG loss than enjoying the benefit of A/C ever will.

So, Chill out and don't worry.

It's reckoned AC uses about 10-15% more fuel.
However on my new car the AC is electrically driven and makes no difference (or very, very little) on fuel use. It does seem to reduce the power from the engine though.

Never used to use the AC, now I leave it running all the time - when parked up the engines off and running on battery power so zero impact on fuel ! :D

If it costs ten times what it does i would still run with my aircon on.

But generally it costs about the same as driving with the windows down.

I know which I would prefer.

Would be nice to have the choice, but it should be repaired on Monday on the warranty. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=25028&start=40
