Is a solid flywheel a lot cheaper than a dual-mass flywheel replacement for the average family car?

What difference does it make to the car?

It's a bit cheaper first time you do the clutch and a lot cheaper next time, since you don't have to change the flywheel again.

I would very much hope that I wouldn't need to do it again, so it's a one-off cost in my case, but it's always useful to bear in mind what you said.

Im not struck on those DMFs...mines judders like hell if you accelerate slightly to quickly before the clutch is ready...hate it.

DMF's are the devil in clutch changes.

I had mine changed to the single system over 100,000 miles ago no problems
Got it done for £250 all in

Allegedly there is not one available for the 2ltr tdis only all the 1.9 tdis

When I had a clutch done on a previous Sussex-mobile I had a blank DMF put in despite it being in good condition. Didn't notice the difference one bit.

That's cheap Delear quoted £1,300 for clutch/DMF, independent maybe £800.

Could do while yet though, no real noise yet, just feels a bit funny and sticky at times.

They usually rattle for ages before they go.

First they start being sticky then they start sounding like a cement mixer full of gravel
Its when it decide to escape through the gearbox casing that's the problem

Mine did that and set fire to the oil on the under engine tray.

The best advise if you cannot get a single sytem is buy from an independant like Sachs

My mate just had one done on one of his cars, £750

BTW, only Mercedes fit the better "planetary" type DMF from Sachs

even STOOOPIDER than DMFs are the CSCs (slave cylinders) fitted INSIDE the bloody bellhousing, now think, for ease and cheap fixes, do we put stuff INSIDE the bellhousing (and need to strip the engine and box to get to) or OUTSIDE, held on by 2 bolts?...

der.....let me think about that, can i go 50/50?
