Currently on 125,000 with my 09 E7. Will probably need one sooner rather than later. If rattles a bit when I turn the engine off but other than that works fine. It's been 'juddering' for 100,000 miles but you just learn to deal with it (over rev and slip the clutch slightly ! ) I was thinking of replacing it with a SACHS one as these are supposed to be a lot better, although they are approximately £100 more. Not sure you can buy a solid flywheel for the new shape yet. Does any one know any better ?

So apart from an extra £100 whats the difference between LUK and Sachs?

From what my mechanic tells me, the LUK type flywheel uses a series of springs to dampen the vibration from the engine. These snap and this is what causes the rattling. The Sachs Planetary type uses a series of cogs/gears surrounding the main shaft (hence Planetary) to do the same job.

Hi. Dual mass flywheels have mechanical springs to absorb the thrust and geared flywheels have gell and mechanical springs. Would not get too hung up on the mechanics of the two types of mass flywheels both do the same job but in different ways.Sachs and luk are both very good makes but luk will alwas recommend a new dualmass cos they make 95% of clutches for car makers in the first place.
I had the sales rep from luk in the garage the other week and he was going on about dualmass flywheels saying it was bad to fit soild flywheels.I told him my motor had four dualmass flywheels in three years all luk. The warranty covered replacement of all flywheels,Then 9 months on yet again same problem this time the dealer was told by nissan to fit a solid flywheel and I have had no more problems the solid one has now done more miles than all the duals put together. The rep told me he was aware of nissan providing a solid flywheels for navara problems. He left with his head hung low.
