If you are going to replace the drums (which wouldn't be a bad idea if replacing the shoes) then it doesn't matter if you damage them but when I took mine into an LTI appointed repairers in Southampton they did bend the drums but I did have some brand new spares.
If your quarterlight surrounds have gone all rusty and leaky, try and get your hands on some pre-Fairway quarterlights. These are shiny stainless steal and they open! All you have to do is to cut a small section of the quarterlight support on the door itself for the swivel pin thing to sit. That's what I did with mine.

I can't really understand the need to bash the hell out of brake drums. If you wind the self adjusters back they can only be stuck on the shafts,if they really are sold a little heat and gentle persuasion plus releasing fluid will free them. A lever between backplate and drum and tapping the drum backwards and forwards works for me.

Thanks again for all the help, managed to get both drums off in the end. Last job was going to be replacing the windscreen rubber that had perished but have managed to crack the bloody screen in the process :(

Very easily done, even the pros manage to crack them so don't feel too bad!. The original Fairway Owners Club and web site have vanished there is another one for Fairway owners as most are in private hands now at http://fairwayowners.freeforums.net/

Many thanks, I will have a look. Does anyone happen to know where I can get a replacement windscreen?

Easy enough from just about any windscreen specialist, there are two sizes listed for the fairways. My last one came from Autoglass.
