If it was lower than £4000 as indicated earlier then a later guess of £4200 was sure to be wrong even though as Skip pointed out a Scrappy scavenge would result in it being even cheaper still.

Many, many vehcles that are not beyond economic repair end up as Cat D write offs because the insurance companies find it more profitable to write the vehicle off and then sell it on as a repairable vehicle to those companies that have the means to do a repair cheaper than a full retail price charging repairer would charge the insurance company .....to write a vehicle off is sometimes the lesser of two evils.

I bought back a car classed as a write off once, assessor said it was worth £50, I said £25 so i got it, it became a breaker and also a donor for parts to repair a MG Montego Turbo, after the bits needed were sold or off it i had it collected and got £50
