A bit of a silly one here, my rear number plate lights are out and apart from a hole at the base I cannot see any screws.

Does anyone know how to release the casing so that I can get at it.

Cheers John.

Some of them just pop out with a bit of help from a flat blade screwdriver.
What kind of motor is it?

I suppose it would help if I put some details in

It is an E7 Peugeot.

Put a small screwdriver (electric size is ideal) into the hole, use the handle to push the housing over, use your other hand to pull the housing down and Robert is your relative.
One further tip is to change both as the one that has been burning on its own will go fairly soon as the slightly higher voltage provided when only one is working will have part burned the filament away. Keep the old but usable one as a spare.
