For my two quid worth.. Patons are a nightmare. LTI? no probs. I like the TX2.

Why crap? I bought a 55 plate TX2 earlier this year? Negotiated some free servicing. Was promised cab would be totally ready for inspection at Cab Office.

Lost V55
Had 3 weeks Tax on it
Failed cab inspection on:
Broken drivers seat, boot lid broken; hazards came on when rear wiper switched on (vice versa); headlights not aligned; handbrake not tightened and a few others I can't remember now (10 in total). It was jet washed!

Also hadn't been steam cleaned and the engine Bay was manky. Went back with it the same day. Hung around for 4 hours. Got it thru in the end.

5 days into ownership, broke down. Steering box failure and hole in fuel line. Towed to Patons on Fri night at 9pm. Goes down on Sat. Waited inside for 1 1/2 hours went out to whats happening. Cab still in the street! Lost my nutt at Jim, cab fixed. Was there from 8am to 1pm.

Brakes were still dodgy pads replaced after i asked the mechanic how he got on with them. Oh.. er.. i'll take it back down again. Jeez.

Last minute panic to get tax disc, eventually got V55.

Day shift guy went into get Jump seat fixed and to sort out a leak I had... driveway looks like a fecking chessboard now. Brakes still not sorted. Booked in for 8am... when did my dayshift guy leave?? 4pm!!! Still leakes. Feck it, I'll top up the water once a week.

Day shift goes in for service, Lyndsay from Patons calls me. Whats this about free servicing? I said, "Check with Chick" She said she did and he knows nothing about it!! I ask to be put thru to him.... 2 mins later she says no its ok we'll do it. Fecking right you'll do it.

Dayshift (getting peeved now) 3 more hours in Patons. Result, Day shift off to Pastures new.. [edited by admin]!!

You wanted to know why Patons were Shekt. Thats what I think.

timing chain (usually caused by pre-tensioner failure, common on all DURATORQ powered vehicles, phone FORD dealer to find out about 6 week back-order wait)
fuel injection pump
radiators
water pumps
ETC!

if i could would have a tx1 every day of the week but my area say any new plated vehicles must be no older than 3years and the only way to get a tx1 is buy one off someone who already plated but knowone is selling plated tx1's or fairways...... obviously we can all see why.

I know people that have had the TX2 from new with little problems of note, I know people who have owned TX1's with lots of problems, and then we have Mr Bexley with the latest model that many drivers are over the moon with and many that think it has a whole new set of problems.

The bottom line is there is no perfect vehicle out there that covers that sort of mileage we cover, and there will always be stories concerning every type of vehicle on the road, some good, some bad.

The London LTI main dealer, (M&O) are doing some attractive deals on used TX2's at the moment, including a 3 year mechanical warranty. It's becoming worth the gamble.

From stories that have been related to me, it seems the 02 / 52 and the 05 onwards were remarkably better the in between ones.

That's a lot.

Taxitech in East London replaces the tensioner and a new chain for £360 all in.

Err . . . it will start first time opposed to the fifth or sixth, it won't rattle against the outer casing . . and you can stand and watch it being done if you happen to be of a suspicious nature.

Have some faith Mr Sussex, not everyones out to rip you off.

Surely the main fault of the TX2 was and still is THE PRICE.

I think you can pick up a second hand one for as little as £11K on places like Taximart.
