I have a 99 Zafira and a 02 Vectra Both haved the engine management light come on randomly with a loss of power. If you turn the ignition off it clears. The garages have plugged them into various computers to read the fault codes and replaced many parts but it still happens, any suggestiona anyone ??. |

Scrap them and buy 2 new Skodas, they are only £8500 at the moment or contact the taxi centre and they will deliver them both to your door no deposit and 0% over 4 years |

do you have a computer print out of the fault codes, you are entitled to this when they put it on the computer most fault codes are commen faults to most vehicles afraid i do not trust most garage mechanics or parts fitters as they are now known, some of these people are unable to read the fault codes and take a stab in the dark you should do a search on google and you will find the fault, or invest in a low cost OBD scanner off ebay |

over the net diagnosis of this is nigh on impossible mate,i have run vectra`s for years and know most of thier faults however this might help to check this what was the fault code? 0400 by any chance? if it was start looking for split vac pipes they are famous for bursting these and causing eml lights and brain shutting down to standby get you home mode there are a few vac pipes on this car but most common ones to split are at the turbo the ones at the solenoids ( 2 behind battery on inner wing one on drivers inner wing to left of turbo ) the one at the vac pump also splits and there is a vac pipe onto the egr valve and one on the butterfly valve on right hand side of inlet manifold other causes of this fault and common are faulty air flow meter burst or jammed with soot egr valve jammed or burst butterfly valve on inlet manifold fault vac solenoids ( usually caused by pressure washing engines ) if i can be of any help pm me i know vec diesels pretty much inside out now |

Sounds like they are slipping into maintenance mode mate, I've got a Signum and the above happend on me a few months ago, a quick service and a reset of the service button did the trick. On another note you might have been putting bad fuel in from the Supermarkets, there's been some dodgy fuel going through them pumps at the moment. Get some diesel flush and run it through your tank. |

taximan one thing you didn`t state is whether your car was petrol or diesel i have assumed diesel due to the fact your a taxi driver, can you confirm this as my above post is aimed towards the 2.0 dti and 2.2 dti unit fitted to the vectra B as i assume on an 02 plate this is the model you have also it`s the same unit used in the zafira although the location of vac solenoids may differ slightly due to different engine bay space but will still be fitted somewhere i`ve ran over 10 vectra diesels both vectra b & c as taxi`s and had the split vac pipes fault on every one unfortunately but fixing them to me is a doodle as i`m well aqainted with them now wait till they don`t start in the morning or constant cranking over till they finally start and i`ll tell you a little £15 repair tip that sorts them 99% of the time

Had a similar problem with my 2003 Zafira - it is a common problem with a Air Hose. For my one the mechanic basically stripped out loads of hoses and took out loads of "gunk". I believe other garages instead just replace the hoses. |

Ah ha; A Vectra forum at last!
Mine's just come up with fault p0238, boost pressure high. We replaced the boost control solenoid but the fault still exists. Also, it goes into 'safe mode' which can be reset by turning off and removing the key for a few seconds. Vectra 'C', 2004, Y20 diesel engine. Any ideas? |
