my problem is this, when i start engine from cold all is ok, when its warmed up and you switch off sometimes when you start up after about 15 min wait or so it sounds rattly and sometimes just cuts out try again same thing , give it a good rev and it seems to clear any ideas lads, i forgot to say when ticking over seems a bit lumpy and you get a knocking sound |

Just seen this one. Noisy...never!!!!!! It's the Massey Ferguson engine! My Tx 11 did the same cutting out all the time.Going around roundabouts was particuarly inconvenient! But then again,it never caught fire! |

run some injector cleaner through it, try the dear derv to ss if that makes a difference (shell ultimate) and/or some millers additive... could be a clogged injector |

Try redex or STP Diesel additive. Redex usually gives you two full tanks for about £5. While you run it throw in Shell V Power for a couple of fillups. I try to put the V Power in most of the time as I usually get 30 to 50 MP Tank more. Make sure you give it a good thrashing.  Any cobwebs you have in there will be blown away.

Mine did that until I got a new chain and tensioner. That cured it, now the rockers are noisy instead.

The increase speed I get is bang on to. |

Hi the rattling you get is it for the first few minutes or is it an intermittant noise at any time? The rattling does it happen when you release the throttle just before the revs return to idle? Any smoke and if so what colour black/whiteblue or grey? Does it take 3 or more attemts to start? |

Hello Mike, Welcome to TDO, you've done some work on my TX2 recently and I certainly have'nt found anyone cheaper around London. I'm very happy with your workmanship as well. Ther's another forum which may interest you, it used to be the London Taxi Drivers Forum (LTDF) but recently it's been taken over by the RMT in order to further their recruitment drive from 32 to 38.
They do however still have quite an active vehicle thread which you may wish to participate in. I think the cheapest timing chain replacement so far is for £450 down in Dartford, so you may wish to plug your £350 one, or even advertise? Hi The only fit the standard chain with the mk4 tensioner The enhanced chains are no better or worse than the standard one they just cost more. The problem is not with the chain but instead with the chain tensioner which causes the chain to stretch, so fitting a bigger chain doesn't actually make any difference. Regards Mike |
