| Post subject: | Fairway Driver Steering Lock Adjustment |
My MoT tester has just failed my newly-acquired Driver for a couple of steering faults: the tyres rub at full lock, and there's a tight , rather lumpy feel to the steering around one position of the steering wheel. Are there any lock stops that can be adjusted, or if not, do the tyres always rub at full lock? On the off side the tyre can catch the fuel filter drain, but that's easy enough to re-position. Slackening the top adjuster on the steering box seems to help with the lumpiness, but is this a sign the box needs overhaul? If so, any advice on repairers or sources of exchange boxes, please? You have a tracking problem... the drag arms on either side are set to a certain distance.... your best taking it into a cab garage and having them reset and then the tracking set.. |

Thanks, Mr T. It was serviced by a well-known taxi export and sales company only a year or so ago, covered only a couple of thousand miles, and was then serviced again, I was told, by a taxi specialist in Derby. So I'm a bit wary of specialists. I'm tweaking the lengths of the drag links to try to achieve clearance at both wheels, both locks, and will check or have checked the tracking later. Anyone any thoughts on the roughness in the steering box? Kevin |
