Hi all.
Once again I need to pick your brains.
Just this morning, started the cab up and heard a hissing noise coming from just behind the break pedal. This was accompanied by a red break warning light on the dashboard (!) .
The warning light did go away with a bit of engine rev, but the hissing remains when my foot is off the break pedal (when ever I break, it stops hissing).
She drives and breaks fine, and even after a little drive to get her up to temp, the hissing continues when break pedal is released, although the warning light is out.

This does coincide with the first real cold morning start up since I've had her....

Any ideas

Haven't got the time to get it looked at right away, do you think it is safe to drive in the mean time??

took her out for a spin again this afternoon, no more hissing and no warning light??????
Its a warm afternoon compared to the colder morning I wonder if the temperature has anything to do with it??

Yeah but the hissing might have stopped because the hole where the air was hissing from is now filled with brake fluid leaking out. Get it in and get it checked out very soon and in the meantime get something under it every time you park up looking for leaks. Brake fluid is nasty stuff; the last thing you want is it eating through something else.

been going ok all day now....
don't really know wha Im looking for if there is no noise to follow.
I'll see if it does it again in the morning, otherwise I'll have to take it to someone to get it checked out.

ok, was fine all day and night yesterday, but this morning once again (after a cold night) the snake is back and hissed all the way to work.
It seems as though it is coming from the black rubber seal / plunger that the break pedal pushes down onto.
The seal / plunger is slightly greasy but there are obvious signs of leaks.
Any ideas? (excluding those involving reptiles)

Do you know what it is and what causes it?
And why it seems to be worse in colder weather?

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Difficult to diagnose without hearing it.Might be an idea to have a mechanic look at it before you come to a halt using the brakes of the car in front.

Have you got a puncture in your doc martins by any chance

it happens till the pressure builds up.wont be detrimental to your brakes though, i gather they still function when its making the 2hissing noise.
