Post subject:  bad starting on my TX2

Hi guys, my 05 plate TX2 has developed an annoying problem as per the title, it doesn't like to start 1st time when the engine is cold, or been left for say half hour, if i'm sitting on the ranks and moving up, starts and stops no problems, also seems to be rattling ie more noisey than normal, doing my research, it leads me to think it could be a few things, timing chain and adjuster, altho this had been replaced before, tappets, not been done, and after a so called diesel injection specialist plugged his fault computer into the cab's ECU, it could also indicate the diesel pump is faulty, this i doubt as after starting initially, never lets me down...i have noticed also it's smoking a bit more than normal under load especially..any of you guys have any idea please?? and any ideas on an honest(ish) garage up my way in Leeds please?? ta loads

have had the egr valve blocked over to stop the smoke about 2 years ago, i do ''cane'' it in 2nd gear now and again to clear the soot out tho, so don't think it'd be that, thanks for your input tho, keep the ideas coming pls!!

Check your fuel lines, and filter,
There maybe a small air leak in the fuel system causing the fuel to sifen back to the tank, so that when you crank it up the fuel has to be drawn back to the engine

The not starting first time then the rattling after sitting idle on a rank sounds like, to me anyway, your chain and tensioner need doing again.

Mine needed doing after a mear 25'000 miles since the last one!

But at £350, it was peace of mind, no problems now.

The rockers are getting noisy, but I'll live with that.

TX2's do smoke. Mines an 05. Try some of that Redex stuff for a few weeks, it cleans out the unburnt fuel deposits.

I,at 1st thought this, but this so called expert I called out tells me it isn't, he bypassed the feed and return pipes by the filter, admittedly for about 5 mins there was air in this clear pipe he used, so it's still a possibility I guess, THANKS for your input!!

I also agree re it could also be the timing chain and tensioner, up here they're rip off merchants, Leeds has only ONE garage that deals with the TX's exclusively, MANN AND OVERTON!! they want £500ish +vat for the timing chain replacement, i have found a garage in Sheffield that might do it, they do service work and repairs for the cabs down there, guessing I might give them a go, but have been burnt by doing this before, again, oh and re the smoke, mine always has smoked a bit, it eased after blocking the EGR valve, but is worse since these starting probs THANKS for your comments

hi marky v
mann&overton = 550+vat =632.50.
why dont you have a drive to london at get it done by mike @ taxitech he charges 350.00 all in with gaurantee, he done mine back in august had the same probs as you now sweet as a nut you will have to pay 55 quid extra for timing chain cover if you have the old style one but still a saving of over 200 quid minus your diesel 40 quid say so still 160 in your bin, and you have peace of mind that the job is done

I was going to mention Taxi techs. You beat me to it Tone.

You can PM him, he posts on here, or as suggested give him a tinkle. He usually turns it round in about 3 hours, there's plenty of cafe's nearby, or you could enjoy the local culture of Stepney. Nice!

No nicking any jobs on the way home though.
