Post subject:  Diesel additives.
After reading on various forums about the benefits of acetone,oil and other additives to diesel fuel I thought I'd try two stroke oil as mentioned on a few.Acetone seems a bit dodgy and although I had some good results with redex I thought the cost to be excessive for the slight gains it offered.
A low ash two stroke oil in the ratio of 1 to 50 definately makes the engine in my fairway quieter.it doesn't turn it into a rolls but the changes into OD (its an auto) are almost inaudible so much so that I thought at one time the box had failed and there is less diesel knock when the engine is cold.I noticed no real gain in power,maybe it runs a bit smoother and there is no increase (or to be fair decrease) in smoke.
Maybe it doesn't work for every engine but I'm going to carry on using it for a bit.

I'm on Redex nowadays.

Tesco had tham on sale for £3 ( :shock: ) for the 250 ml ones.

I bought the lot. That should see me through 2010.

The Redex additive I used was the 0-60 cetane booster.It seemed to offer an increase in performance and the engine was quieter but at £7 a bottle or so it was a bit expensive,I have heard that Wilkinsons and other discount shops do it for around the £5.50 mark.Nothing comes close to your price though.

I've tried it on mine since Monday but as of yet I've only noticed a decrease in engine noise when it's started from cold.

I found an article on the net from an independant test of two stroke oil and other additives and how they reduced friction over straight diesel.Two stroke oil reduced friction as did some of the other addives although certain ones made friction (and wear) worse.

According to the garages this ULS diesel is causing some major problems with these new common rail diesel engines, apparantly it's to dry and due to it not having sulphur added it's lost it's coating ability on the pump and injectors.

I tried flooring the accelarator of my Fairway for about 30 seconds when parked up. The amount of black smoke was frightening. Added Redex & it seems to have given it a bit of power.

Your thinking of the alcohol free Kaliber additive...it really does taste like P*ss :shock:
