Just been doing some runs in my Fairway Driver now the weather has cleared a little. I'm a bit concerned about the fuel consumption though. I recently filled up from empty (about £52) and today did a run to the coast and back. Total mileage 185. But the fuel is now down to half way between half and a quarter. I reckon I might reach 250 miles total before I reach almost empty again. Now this works out at about 20 mpg. (assuming it does only reach 250 miles) which I think is very poor even for a Fairway Driver.
I thought I'd get about 30 mpg on a run mixed in with some town driving. The car has been very recently serviced. What else can affect poor consumption? |

Firstly, are you sure that the guage is reading correctly? Most don't. Secondly why not fill up again now and then you can work out exactly what the consumption is. |

Grandads right, relying on the readings for 1/2 full or whatever is a waste of time. You could fill it right up,do a hundred miles or so and then see how much it takes to fill it to the brim.I reckon to get 35mpg from mine driving sensibly and with the OD on where possible. |

Well to be honest the fuel sender gauge is brand new. I fitted it myself because the old one was knackered. I couldn't get a proper reading on the gauge but since fitting the new sender it seems to be working perfectly. Yeah I suppose you are right. Filling up now would be the best way. I will let you know what it is later. |
