| Post subject: | Fairway turns over... but won't start! |
My Fairway (1995 with an STT Emtec mod) conked out while idling and won't start again. Its always started first time so I think the glow plugs are fine. The engine turns over too, so I think it might be the fuel lines or pump. The fuel filter seems happy and no obvious fuel leaks so maybe its the pump. Which leaves a possible pump failure or the fuel cut off is activated and/or fused. The fuel cut off is my current best guess - especially as the cabin cut off switch was not activated, but when tested, no warning light illuminates. No bust fuses though, and believe me I keep that fusebox dry and clean! How can I check the cut off is activated or not? And if it (and the warning light) has fused, where do I find the fuse or any relays relating to it? And does the fuel cut off stop the pump from working, or just fuel getting to it? (This last would help me be sure about the pump) Maybe someone can help - I'm a long way from Three Colts Lane! Thanks! Scott |

There should be a second cut-out switch under the bonnet check the wires have not corroded off that...... if you are really stuck.... look at the fuel pump... and see if the wires have come off.. there should be two wires connecting two units.... a live wire to the two wires should make the it work...They will make a clicking noise |

Thanks! I've just checked the cut off under the bonnet and there are no wires - the switch is still there but no connections. Must have been a problem before. Now want to check the fuel pump - but can't locate it! Any more help much appreciated. Scott |

Found the pump - and found there's a leaking injector pipe. The clue was a rhythmic blowing noise from the pump as air was sucked in through the crack and a slick of diesel on the cylinder block. So the problem wan't the cut off after all. Thanks! Scott |
