Post subject:  WAV Tyres
Are other areas experiencing problems getting "Taxi" marked tyres for purpose builts.

Remoulds are just not available and new tyres are thin on the ground (and I don't mean they don't have much tread).

Quite relieved to be driving a Bread Van myself - purpose builts are not designed for full grown adults to drive.

I dont suppose they were Designed with Munchkins in mind Either...but surely a Tyre with a reinforced sidewall like a van would use would be Fine for the extra loadings placed on them....I hadnt even realised there was such a Thing as a "Taxi" marked tyre...Luckily I need not buy "PH" marked tyres... :?

Yeah they are - if you are an ex Jockey your fine - not much more room in the front than in an original mini.

For an LTI or a Metro you need the "Taxi" on the tyre, that may be why there is a potentialy a problem.

Normal tyres do me fine - but some of the "height challenged" brethren may have a struggle on their hands.

I thought Van or Minibus tyres would have been fine??

At the Nottingham test centre there is a notice on the office wall stating that the tyres for the purpose builts must be marked TAXI. I recently bought a Metrocab for emergency use and I checked yesterday and all the tyres are marked TAXI.

175-80-16, will be the only size you buy for any LTI or metro, unless there are different wheels available

Taxi and van tyres are no different to normal tyres IMO, van tyres are stronger than Taxi tyres so why can't Taxis use van tyres??

Ran my metrocab for years on van tryes. Better than the "taxi" ones by far.
Had to get the meter reset though. There was a slight difference in diameter which made the meter run a bit heavy.
Maybe thats what they are worried about?
