thats the highly technical test where the tester jumps up and down bouncing each wing?...

shocks usually, if the front isnt sitting level its the coils

BTW, 11 months is a long time in the life of a taxi

I will try to clarify matters.SGS tested this two weeks ago,an imbalance showed up in front suspension .Front shocks replaced,on retest no difference on readings.Any sensible thoughts as to the problem.

Do they not tell you what the fault is, ie ball joint ?its quite hard to diagnose without seeing sounds like shocker but if youve replaced them who knows

Are you sure they didn't do a break test... and found a discrepancy there

go back and ask for an explanation, if you feel strongly enough take it for test at a VOSA/HGV test centre, i forget the appeal procedure but im sure costs can be reclaimed

take it for a cheap local test (£29 here cheapest) if your original test centre is stubborn

Thanks for all replies . Testers wont say what may be wrong, all they will say is they cannot see anything loose or worn . KWIKFIT and My Garage cant see anything amiss. The brake a nd alignment tests were fine. Thats why I changed the shocks trying the easiest way out . Any further ideas . Thanks.

Who are your "certified" testers, just 1 MOT centre?, cant see if you say

if it was me....

Id have it tested elsewhere, and go straight round to the original test station, ask again, show the full test you have, ask em to retest it and if it fails contact VOSA

Could the springs be weak?? or even a duff new shocker, or even and its been known to happen, the parts gave you slightly different shockers as there may have been an upgrade revision of them

maybe if he uses his documents, he can find whats wrong from the Gov MOTC site

http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/j ... equest.jsp

just been up and done mine, last motc not showing for November, not been updated yet, but it lists all the faults found at each test

id take it to a 2nd tester, £20 well spent, if it fails id take it to a reliable repairer, not easy to find though! if it passed id go to the test centre who failed it ask for VOSAs number

simples

ALI T The post subject clearly states the problem i.e. suspension imbalance. I have since been informed the problem is being caused by slight rust where one shock is btolted at the TOP ,thus allowing play when on test machine. Nothing seems wrong while driving or a bump test on the wings. So the shock is being removed and a plate welded on thr top mounting.Fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone who replied .CHEERS KEVIN.

If there was any corrosion of any amount on a strut mounting the test station should have noted that and given you an advisory or quoted that as a reason for failure (structural corrosion)
