Can anyone help me.
I have a 56 plate TX4. Out of the blue today, when I turned the key it was completely dead. Cut a long story short, what's happening is;
You put the key in and turn.
Everything lights up as normal
Wait for glow plug light to go out
turn key
Nothing.
Not struggling to turn over but absolutely nothing. Just a bit of electrical hiss.
At the moment this is happening about every other attempt to start, from warm or cold.
When it does fire it's just as normal. Very quick, not labouring at all. You can kill it and try again and Nothing the next time.

Any ideas please.

Thanks for the rplies. Tx_op it looks like you sussed it. 24 hours and hasn't faulted since I did what you suggested and can't make it do it.

Next question. Courtesey lights don't come on when rear nearside door is opened. Any ideas?

Switch not properly earthed? I don't know about TX4s but on some cars the switch is held in place with a ferrous screw, screw goes rusty - no earth.

Go to your local dealer and ask for a door light switch...cost about £7.00..fit in 2 mins.

switch mounting screw has corroded

remove and scrape to bare metal, use a new self-tapper

some are VERY cheap and nasty

i've had identical problems to this in my TX4, as have loads of other TX4 owners and its almost always the transponder in the key failing to communicate properly with the immobiliser. i had it fixed at patons in edinburgh(main dealer prices) and cost £145. starts perfectly every time now.

Hi
Tx-op, I have the same problem and have checked all connections. Is there one special that could cause the fault?

Problem is: turn key, ignition lights on, next turn on key: all dead.
If it is the immobilizer, any tips on what parts to change?

The car is located very far from the nearest LTI service shop, so that is I am afraid no option.

Thanks in advance.
