As of today, not a single TX4 in Maidstone has had a blown engine. That's around 25 cabs dating from 2006.

I paid £5000 in August 2011 for a new TX4 engine from LTI to be fitted by Taxifix in Liverpool, well that engine started knocking its brains on 19/12/13 out with less than 80,000 miles on it.

I have changed the oil every 5000 miles myself and ensured there was always a 50% anti freeze mixture,i will never buy another cab off LTI and after 31 years i have bought a few brand new.

I have re-cond around 25+ tx4 engines the majority of the time failure due to oil pump failing or pressure valve sticking done one last week 59 reg only done 98000 with a full lti service history the big ends blew i always recommend oil and filter changes at 6000-7000 miles .
I done a timing belt on one last week a 57 reg still on original engine done 289000 miles and he has always had oil and filter changes at 6000 from new,we just got one in now again a 09 reg done 70000 1 owner with suspected damaged block liner .

I always use original VM filter's and a good quality 5w-40 synthetic oil but i also use a 10w-40 because i find some cabs run smoother on it :? :? .

Given DPF's need a regular blast (AKA An "Italian job" tune) i cant begin to imagine how often they will fail pottering around a big city at 10mph average speed

im glad someone else noticed this...

we now have 2ltr diesel engines giving 200bhp and cars able to corner at 75mph but we are not seeing better MPG, why?...

for our needs 100mpg would be far better than 100mph
