You like me have the same engine where the softer cam and lifters where fitted, the guy who fitted mine worked for VW down here and he had seen a few of them, so a cam 8 lifters 2 gaskets, and engine flush and oil change, they will have to move the fuel pump so they will have to change the gasket thats on that, or fuel seep out.

been on to mechanic, car ready this pm (thank feck). water pump needing looked at again, but otherwise all done. keeping shaft and lifters to show me. seems one of the lifters is holed. so your g right, soft metal.

going to be a loonnngggg weekend of working to claw back some of the outlay. the diamonds are just going to have to win without my vocal (cough) "encouragement/advice"

I hope they fitted a metal water-pump and not the the plastic one £24
As the belt would have had to come off anyway all that was required there was a belt and tensioner kit at around £36 plus metal water-pump

hate answering my own post, but..........it got better(ish) all but one other car and nightshift called it quits prior to 2am. he gave in about 3.10am. nightshift was all over central scotland it seems, while I mopped up the £4-6 locals. early finish, pah. well past curfew. still didn't make above par for friday hours, but after a dry week, every little helps.
