Post subject:  TX1 compared to a fairway.
I've been offered a cheap TX1 taxi,I've not seen it and have never driven one and its a long way to go and get.
I'm thinking of pensioning off my fairway which I use as a daily driver.
Is the TX! any better than its predecessor and do they share many parts?
I've never even been in one so any advice etc would be appreciated.

There basically the same vehicle with different shell,as in same running gear.Guess its a matter of which you prefer.One thing is to check for rot on sills and wheel arches ect,as much bigger job to replace than say sills on a fairway !

From memory, having never driven one of these things, the lads say the TX1 is/was a lot better than the TX2.

Not sure if that means a lot though. :roll: :roll:

Thats because the tx1 is the nissan engine same as fairway,the tx2 are the ford transit engines and a nightmare cab ! If it wasnt for the emissions brigade and you could buy a TX4 with the nissan engine i think LTI would be back in profit !

Had my 2001 TX1 from new , approx 305,000 on original engine, new gearbox bearings at 190,000 needs rebuilding as getting noisey again! Engine and transmission pretty much bulletproof...........................as for the body ,that's a complete joke!
How a company thats has the neck to display a sticker inside the vehicle stating " build with pride in coventry" can put together panels that started corrroding after 3 years is beyond me. So far the inner and outer sills have been repaired/ repaced,both inner rear wheel arches, both front wings, and other odd plates and patches all over the underside of the body. Oh yes almost forgot the doors..............more fibreglass in the bottoms than metal lol :roll:

Thanks for the input guys.
I've had a look at a few other Tx1s and the comments about them being even bigger rot boxes than the fairways (I wouldn't have thought it possible) seem to ring true.
The standard of construction and fit is simply abysmal if the ones I've looked at are anything to go by.
No wonder we have all these foreign cars if this is the best British industry can do.
I'll stick with my old fairway rust holes and all.

That will be the ttt one then, the mark 2 version is allegedly even better
