I am getting the quite common (I think) waving speedo needle, which seems to be connected to the speedo slightly under-reading. The wave seems to smoothen out at higher speed.

I am guessing that this is a worn speedo cable seat in the speedo assembly itself, which is perhaps slipping occasionally because of the worn (probably plastic) sleeve it fits into, but becomes less discernible at higher speed. I guess this would probably mean a new speedo assembly (or second hand one)...

Am I right, or might a new speedo cable be a cheap fix for this?

Cheers again,

RW

New speedo cable, but before you try release the cable from back of speedo by pressing clip together and pulling off. Then try a bit of oil/wd down there and it might fix it .

Location: Used to be in Lowestoft, now escaped.
Blackpool beat me to it,some oil trickled down often sorts wavering needles out.Sometimes just moving the cable so there are fewer bends works too.
