Sorry Gus...not intentional to pee on your parade mate. Same thing happened to me, with some other different symptoms, cost me a trip to Glasgow and £300 to rectify.

I'd still check the switch first.

What was the cause BTW?

Undo the 2 self tapper screws at each end of the light and remove it from the tailgate spoiler. Then pull the cable out gently and you'll come to a plug, unplug the light and put a meter across the supply wire contacts. See if you're getting 12V with the doors open. If you are then the light unit is gubbed. £80.00 from Allied and fit it yourself. When you fit the new one it's worth putting a bead of sealer round the edge of the light where it meets the tailgate spoiler. It's water getting inside the light that causes it to blow the wee unit that fires the LEDs. Poor workmanship at the factory again I'm afraid.

What/Where is the door switch located?

Passenger Door Pillar 3/4 way down, normally a black plastic pin that's pushed in when the door closes. The dim lights you spoke of is probably it finding another earth elsewhere via additional component resistance.
