Hi, Been having a good look around in the engine bay of my Fairway. Came across this part which has an electrical connection going into the top of it and a small pipe going to the rear of the alternator. (the rubber pipe has a small split in it. Could this be a reason why my overdrive doesnt seem to function?

Just asked one of our fairway drivers on the rank and he says it's a vacuum pipe for the auto box and is probably the reason why your overdrive isn't working. Hope this helps.

Cheers for the help!

I have noticed that the electrical connection going into the top of the cylinder shaped component is really corroded. Can anyone tell me what this part is ? Think i will replace it if I can.

Actually, I think that this is a vacuum switch that when activated lights up your brake warning lamp on the dash. It is to warn you that there is no vacuum in the brake servo. The device on the rear of the alternator makes the vacuum for the brake servo.
Not sure why your overdrive isn't working I'm afraid....

Its vacuum for brakes if you pull the rubber pipe off it should illuminate red light on dash and brakes wll go hard.
