Hello all :) Problem Solved =D> :D =D>

Tinkering week is here =D>

I am in the process of regluing the headlining in the driver compartment, at last :oops:
Another thing I'm not to happy about is the piece of glass behind the drivers seat. Being close to 6'5" my head sits above the head rest in its highest position. Not to mention the safety of passangers using the flip down seat.
A local company produces polycarb "glass" and offered to have a piece cut to fit.. for free =D>

I tried removing plastic trim from the passenger compartment- no luck.
The same result from the drivers side, I thought it would come out that way but... :roll:

So! Is there a magical way??

Hi,
You could try removing the top 'cant rail' for want of a better word. The plastic trim on the passenger side that is closest to the ceiling that runs along the width of the car. Once that is off, I think you can then remove the glass. It is held in place by a really sticky black putty type glue.

I removed the plastic trim in the rear and found a piece of plywood lurking behind it, and behind that is the steel frame.
I took some pictures but not sure how to upload #-o

The glass is coming out... eventually :D

There!!

I drilled out the four rivets that hold the "armour plating" behind the drivers seat in place. Then I was able to inch the plate down the 2-3 mm ( :wink: ) needed to successfully slide the pane out and down :D

As regards the headlining, I found mine to be beyond repair because the foam had all broken down. I bought some new headlining material, a nice grey nylon foam backed fabric as used in new BMWs and VWs with some high temp spray glue. I couldn't find any vinyl headlining but this was nicer.
I removed all traces of the old headlining foam and stuck the new stuff on. It's a pressed cardboard panel. It looks really good now, just remember to make notes of how the old one is tucked away. It makes the front of the car feel almost like new.

Headliner...

I scrubbed the cardboard panel and vinyl headliner clean, only took a couple of hours.. :p

Everyone over here told me to use 3M 80 and only that one as it is the only one that works for vinyl and runner and foam et. etc.

Glued a thin layer of foam backing to the panel - no problem :D
Two days later:
I did a test on a corner piece, everything seemed fine.
Glued the headliner to the foam.
Went down just fine, looked fab... but after 15-20 minutes... #-o #-o #-o Some kind of reaction caused the headliner to look like pizza cheese in a really hot oven, preferably wood fired.

I managed to get the headliner off and the foam off the panel in the end.

All can be rescued with a lot of luck 8)

My personal conclusion: Do NOT use 3M 80 sprayglue for the headliner in your Fairway!!!!!!!!!!!

The polycarbonate pane is now in place, and my head is safe(er)
I opted for the 3mm thickness. It meant I could leave the now squeky clean original glass pane in place.
I removed most of the elephant poo while I was at it.

How many gallons of that stuff does it take to build one black cab??
