Ever since I have owned my fairway, the overdrive never seemed to operate. Well last week on the way to have the mot done, I was on the motorway and as usual, I press the overdrive button in the hope that oneday something will happen.... well surprise surprise it worked. The revs changed and I felt the gearbox clunk into another gear! It drove perfectly and to top everything off it also passed its mot!!! But today the overdrive has stopped working again.... If I press the overdrive button while stationary I can hear a click sound from underneath cab and the green light on dash goes out. Anyone have any ideas what I should check? When it was working last week, everything was perfect so I don't think there is any issue with the actual gearbox itself. Is there any electrical connections or earths what are prone to failing? Cheers |

Possibly an electrical connection. All you can really do is check the wiring outside the gearbox for bad connections,if it's inside its a more involved job. There are wiring diagrams you can download on the net, these will help you trace the wires. |

I can here a click when switch is pressed so maybessomething is sticking. |

You can get an idea of the state of the oil by looking and smelling the dipstick. It should be red not black and not smell of burning. The click you here is the relay (I assume) so the fault could be in the feed from the relay to the box, inside the box or even (rarely) the contacts of the relay. If you can trace the wires to the box and check for a 12volt feed running down them it should show you were the fault is. |
