have been down to my local unfriendly Man & Overton dealer here in Leeds, and asked him about adding redex, or similar, in his normal customer friendly tone, he states that under no circumstances should this be used...is this bull by a main dealer, or does his arguement hold up, all advice would be appreciated please

I've always used Redex or similar.

Especially near the dates of my taxi tests.

I don't waste me money, I just give it a good 10 mile bash in low box with plenty of rpm on the way home from work the night before, and again half and hour before the test,

Ah yes, the good old "Italian tune up".

That does work a treat, and I concur 100%.

Shell diesel plus is a good fuel with additives in it already and all at no extra cost. I thought I could notice a difference (TX1) after a few tank fulls.

If you must use an additive then millers diesel power plus gets a good reputation.

Wyns 'petrol and diesel' additive is superb, I don't know how good the petrol one is or the diesel, just the combined one.

Had an engine that had been stood in a wet barn nearly 2 years, occasionally started, but the diesel 'had gone funny'

One morning it started but would not drive, would not rev.


Holding pedal to floor for 30 seconds saw the rpm rise to max, and letting pedal back up the revs dropped after a 10 or so second delay.

Removed filter, it had brown sticky gunge in it that just stuck to anything metal, poured a tub of wyns in, started engine, 30 seconds later car was fine, put a new filter on and cleaned out the tank.

I use shell optimax, modern fuels don't need additives anymore.
