Hi,

My Fairway has been off the road since october. Today I decided to start it up. It started and ran for only a matter of seconds and died. I cannot get it to run again. Engine just turns over. I then noticed that the Red light on dash lit up which I understand highlights a fuel issue.

I then went to the priming pump/filter and unscrewed the plastic screw afew turns to release any water. Abit of sluggy/brown water came out. I understand that I have to pump the round button up & down. Is it right that this button only moves up & down by about a 1cm? I was pushing it but it didnt really seem to do anything.

The red light is still on and the engine will not fire up. I am stuck

Ok will do 1st,

And how much movement is normal on the priming button? I can only push it down about 1cm. Does it pull up?

Once you have fitted new filter ,you need to repeatedly press the 'primer' black button until it becomes stiff. In effect until you can't push it any more.

you may be able to fill the filter with clean diesel and/or injector cleaner prior to fitting which helps

Today, I replaced the fuel filter (it was really dirty and lots of water). I pumped the button loads. It was still very reluctant to start and the battery started going flat with repeated turning over. So I got the jump leads out and connected it to my car..... wooooosh the cab started (massive cloud of black smoke). It was running really lumpy and chugging away for the first 5 minutes but then the idling smoothed out and it was ticking away nicely.

Gave it a little drive around the block and it all seemed fine.

Thanks for the advice peeps :D
