All tyres have wear bars going directly across the tread these are set at 1.6 mil by the manufacture ,if you want to check jus use a 10p coin ,the dotted line up from the edge is 1.6 , for piece of mind always check tyres weekly for pressure, wear and any damage , always replace before you reach the 1.6 wear bars and to help make tyres last longer get the wheels tracked at the same time |

Not forgetting that the tread must be good over 3/4 of the tyre width. This is not measured from one side though, it is measured from the middle so it is 3/8 of the tyre from the centre each way. |

I had a puncture and took it to tyre company that I use on a regular basis for replacements etc. Whilst I was there I asked them to clarify as to whether I had enough depth on one of the other tyres, myself thinking that it may have a bit of wear left in it. To my surprise they said it needed changing! Anyway I will cut to the chase...... I have always checked my tyres with a traditional depth gauge i.e pop it into any part of the tread and again at different points to make sure that I am legal, that is the way that I have done it for donkeys years. However the tyre company say that you should take your measurement of depth off of the tread wear indicators i.e if the distance off of the tread wear indicators says 1.5 mm then it is illegal. The guy to my knowledge is genuine and not one of your usual sharks, however surely he is wrong on this one - or am I wrong? |

If they are that thin......I always put them in the bin...Tyres also have tread wear indicators moulded into the base of the main grooves. When the tread surface is worn to the same level as these indicators, the tyre is at the legal limit and should be replaced. |
